🧫 Experiment Protocol
Validationage-related neuroinflammationaged mice microgliaproposed
This experiment investigated the direct effects of butyrate on pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in microglia from aged mice. The study demonstrated that butyrate treatment can attenuate pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in microglia, suggesting its potential as an anti-inflammatory therapeutic agent for age-related neuroinflammation. This appears to be a preliminary experiment that provided the rationale for the subsequent dietary fiber intervention study.
PRIMARY OUTCOME
pro-inflammatory cytokine expression levels
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in microglia
SUCCESS CRITERIA
Significant attenuation of pro-inflammatory cytokine expression
PROTOCOL
Direct butyrate treatment of microglia with measurement of cytokine expression
