Pittsburgh Compound B (PiB), chemically known as [N-methyl-11C]2-(4'-methylaminophenyl)-6-hydroxybenzothiazole, is a PET radiotracer developed at the University of Pittsburgh that binds to amyloid-beta (Abeta) plaques in the brain. It was the first amyloid PET tracer and remains a gold standard for amyloid imaging in Alzheimer's disease research. Since its first human use in 2002, PiB has been fundamental in advancing our understanding of amyloid pathology in living humans and has enabled critical studies on disease progression, biomarker validation, and therapeutic trials.
