Anterior Cingulate Cortex Neurons

Introduction

The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is a critical region of the medial prefrontal cortex that plays a central role in cognitive control, emotional processing, and motivated behavior. Located on the medial surface of the frontal lobe above the corpus callosum, the ACC integrates information from diverse brain systems to guide behavior, monitor performance, and regulate emotional responses.[@bush2000] ACC neurons are essential for executive function, error detection, and the coordination of emotional and cognitive processes.
