Introduction

B cells (B lymphocytes) are adaptive immune cells that play critical roles in humoral immunity through antibody production. While traditionally studied in peripheral immunology, emerging research reveals important roles for B cells and humoral immunity in neurodegenerative diseases. [@wang2021]

Overview

B cells are produced and matured in the bone marrow, where they develop antigen receptors (B cell receptors/BCRs). Upon encountering antigen, B cells differentiate into plasma cells (antibody-secreting cells) and memory B cells. [@fiala2020]
