Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) neurons produce CGRP, a 37-amino acid neuropeptide that acts as one of the most potent vasodilators known and plays critical roles in pain transmission, neuroinflammation, and autonomic regulation. These neurons are widely distributed throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems and have emerged as key players in migraine pathophysiology and neurodegenerative disease processes.
