The dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) is the primary source of serotonergic innervation to the forebrain and plays a crucial role in modulating mood, sleep, appetite, and cognitive functions. Serotonergic neurons in the DRN are prominently involved in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and Huntington's disease (HD).
