Morphologically Altered Astrocytes

Introduction

Morphologically Altered Astrocytes refer to astrocytes that have undergone significant changes in response to pathological insults, injury, or disease[@pekny2016]. These alterations represent a spectrum of reactive changes that fundamentally transform astrocyte morphology, gene expression, and function. Once considered merely passive responders to neuronal injury, morphologically altered astrocytes are now recognized as active drivers of disease progression and potential therapeutic targets[@liddelow2017].
