The parasubthalamic nucleus (PSTN), also known as the parasubthalamic area or subthalamic reticular nucleus, is a small but functionally important region located in the ventral thalamus adjacent to the subthalamic nucleus. It plays critical roles in autonomic regulation, motor control, and emotional processing, with growing evidence of involvement in neurodegenerative diseases particularly [Parkinson's disease](/diseases/parkinsons-disease-disease) and multiple system atrophy[@kita2013][@benarroch2016].
