The premammillary nuclei are a specialized group of hypothalamic nuclei located at the base of the brain, immediately rostral to the mammillary bodies. These nuclei play crucial roles in reproductive behavior, spatial memory consolidation, social recognition, and autonomic function. Recent research has begun to elucidate their involvement in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly [Alzheimer's disease](/diseases/alzheimers-disease) and [Parkinson's disease](/diseases/parkinsons-disease).
