Introduction

The Suprachiasmatic Nucleus (SCN) arginine vasopressin (AVP) neurons constitute one of the best-characterized cellular components of the mammalian circadian timing system. Located in the ventral hypothalamus, the SCN serves as the master circadian pacemaker, coordinating near-24-hour rhythms in physiology, behavior, and gene expression across the entire organism. [@mohawk2012] AVP neurons reside primarily in the SCN shell and function as the primary output cells that transmit circadian timing information to downstream neural and neuroendocrine targets.
