The Temporal Association [Cortex](/brain-regions/cortex) (TeAC) represents one of the most complex and functionally diverse regions of the mammalian brain, playing a critical role in integrating multimodal sensory information, supporting semantic memory processes, and facilitating higher-order cognitive functions that degenerate in numerous neurodegenerative conditions. Located in the superior, middle, and inferior temporal gyri, this cortical region serves as a crucial hub for connecting primary sensory cortices with limbic structures and prefrontal regions, creating an integrated neural network essential for recognition, memory, and language (Mesulam, 2000; Kandel et al., 2000).
