Overview

Mitochondria are membrane-bound organelles found in the cytoplasm of nearly all eukaryotic cells. Often referred to as the "powerhouses" of the cell, these versatile organelles are essential for converting nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP) through the process of oxidative phosphorylation.
