AXIN1 (Axis Inhibition Protein 1) is a critical scaffolding protein that plays a central role in regulating the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway. As a key component of the beta-catenin destruction complex, AXIN1 facilitates the phosphorylation and degradation of beta-catenin, thereby preventing constitutive activation of Wnt target genes. In the nervous system, AXIN1 is essential for embryonic brain development, neuronal migration, synaptic plasticity, and its dysfunction has been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases including [Alzheimer's disease](/diseases/alzheimers-disease) and [Parkinson's disease](/diseases/parkinsons-disease-disease).
