Overview

DHH (Desert Hedgehog) is a member of the Hedgehog signaling family with specialized roles in male gonad development, peripheral nerve myelination, and steroidogenesis. It is the least studied of the three mammalian Hedgehog ligands (SHH, IHH, DHH), but emerging research suggests important functions in the nervous system with potential implications for [Alzheimer's Disease](/diseases/alzheimers-disease), [Parkinson's Disease](/diseases/parkinsons-disease), and [Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis](/diseases/amyotrophic-lateral-sclerosis)[@dhh2020][@dhh2021].
