FLT1 (Fms-related receptor tyrosine kinase 1), also known as Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 1 (VEGFR1), encodes a cell surface receptor for VEGF family members that plays critical roles in angiogenesis, vascular development, hematopoiesis, and neuroprotection. In the nervous system, FLT1 regulates [blood-brain barrier](/mechanisms/blood-brain-barrier) function, neurovascular coupling, and provides direct neuroprotective signaling.
