FOXP1 (Forkhead Box P1) is a transcription factor encoded by the FOXP1 gene located on chromosome 3p13. This gene plays critical roles in neuronal development, motor circuit formation, B-cell differentiation, and the development of speech and language circuits. Mutations in FOXP1 cause FOXP1 syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by intellectual disability, childhood apraxia of speech, and autistic features. The gene's involvement in corticobasal ganglia circuits makes it particularly relevant to understanding both developmental speech disorders and neurodegenerative conditions such as Huntington's disease[@genereviews2023][@hamdan2010].
