== Function ==
NRCAM (Neuronal Cell Adhesion Molecule) is a member of the L1 family of cell adhesion molecules (L1-CAMs). It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with six Ig-like domains and five fibronectin type III repeats in its extracellular region. NRCAM mediates homophilic (NRCAM-NRCAM) and heterophilic (NRCAM-ankyrin-G) interactions that are essential for neuronal migration, axon guidance, and synapse formation. [@sakurai2011]
