The PCBP2 gene encodes Poly(rC)-Binding Protein 2 (hnRNP E2), a member of the PCBP (poly(rC) binding protein) family of RNA-binding proteins. PCBP2 is a multifunctional protein involved in post-transcriptional gene regulation through binding to single-stranded DNA and RNA containing cytosine-rich sequences.、PCBP2 plays critical roles in mRNA stability, translation regulation, alternative splicing, and iron homeostasis. Recent research has strongly implicated PCBP2 in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly through its involvement in alpha-synuclein regulation, TDP-43 proteinopathy, and oxidative stress response in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
