Overview

RAB28 (RAS-Related Protein RAB28) is a member of the Rab GTPase family that plays critical roles in vesicular trafficking, synaptic vesicle recycling, [autophagy](/mechanisms/autophagy-lysosome-pathway), and protein trafficking within neurons. Originally characterized for its involvement in retinal degeneration, emerging research has revealed RAB28's significant roles in [Parkinson's disease](/diseases/parkinsons-disease) and [Alzheimer's disease](/diseases/alzheimers-disease) pathogenesis [@raitt2014].
