Overview

RAB2A (RAB GTPase 2A) is a critical small GTPase involved in intracellular vesicle trafficking, particularly within the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-to-Golgi transport pathway and within Golgi compartments. RAB2A plays essential roles in neuronal function by regulating synaptic vesicle formation, protein sorting, and cargo delivery. The protein belongs to the RAB GTPase family, which functions as molecular switches cycling between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states to control vesicular transport events. Dysregulation of RAB2A has been strongly linked to neurodegenerative processes in Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), making it an important target for understanding disease mechanisms and developing therapeutic interventions[@ref1][@ref6][@ref11].
