The RYR2 gene spans approximately 103 kb and comprises 105 exons that encode a massive protein of 5,647 amino acids with a molecular weight of ~565 kDa. RYR2 is the largest known ion channel protein and forms a homotetrameric complex that serves as the primary calcium release channel in cardiomy monomerocytes.
