Calcium Dysregulation in Neurodegeneration

Overview

Calcium (Ca²⁺) is a critical second messenger that regulates numerous cellular processes including neurotransmitter release, synaptic plasticity, gene transcription, and cell survival. Maintaining calcium homeostasis is essential for neuronal function, and dysregulation of calcium signaling is a hallmark feature of both Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) [1].
