Exosome-mediated propagation represents a critical mechanism underlying the spread of pathological proteins in neurodegenerative diseases. These extracellular vesicles, ranging from 30-150 nanometers in diameter, are produced by most cell types and serve as natural carriers of biological cargo between cells. In the context of neurodegeneration, exosomes have emerged as key vectors for the intercellular transfer of disease-associated proteins including alpha-synuclein, tau, amyloid-beta (Abeta), TDP-43, and SOD1, thereby facilitating the progression of pathology throughout the nervous system.
