Overview

Ion channel dysfunction represents a critical pathogenic mechanism underlying multiple neurodegenerative diseases. Ion channels are membrane-spanning proteins that regulate the flow of ions (sodium, potassium, calcium, and chloride) across neuronal membranes, establishing the electrochemical gradients essential for neuronal excitability and synaptic transmission.
