Mitochondrial dynamics refers to the continuous processes of fusion and fission that maintain mitochondrial morphology, distribution, and quality control within cells. In neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Huntington's disease (HD), dysregulation of mitochondrial dynamics represents a central pathogenic mechanism contributing to neuronal dysfunction and death[@chen2023].

The balance between fusion and fission determines mitochondrial morphology—from elongated, interconnected networks to fragmented discrete organelles.
