Overview

The NLRP3 (NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3) inflammasome is a multiprotein intracellular complex that serves as a critical innate immune sensor triggering inflammatory cascades in the central nervous system (CNS). Upon activation by pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) or danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), the NLRP3 inflammasome recruits and activates caspase-1, which processes pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and IL-18 into their mature, bioactive forms.
