ARF1 (ADP-Ribosylation Factor 1) is a small GTP-binding protein that functions as a molecular switch regulating vesicle trafficking between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the Golgi apparatus. This protein is essential for membrane trafficking, protein sorting, and synaptic function. Dysregulation of ARF1-mediated trafficking has been implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases including [Alzheimer's disease](/diseases/alzheimers-disease) (AD) and [Parkinson's disease](/diseases/parkinsons-disease) (PD)[@dsouzaschorey2005][@kahn2008].
