Caveolin-1 (CAV1)

Introduction

Caveolin-1 (CAV1) is a scaffolding protein that forms the structural basis of caveolae - flask-shaped invaginations of the plasma membrane involved in lipid raft organization, signal transduction, and cellular homeostasis[@rothberg1992]. Caveolin-1 plays critical roles in neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) through its involvement in lipid metabolism, oxidative stress response, and neuroinflammation[@ikezu2008].
