HSPA9 Protein

Introduction

Hspa9 Protein is an important component in the neurobiology of neurodegenerative diseases. This page provides detailed information about its structure, function, and role in disease processes.

Overview

HSPA9 (Heat Shock Protein Family A (Hsp70) Member 9), also known as mortalin, is a mitochondrial Hsp70 chaperone essential for mitochondrial protein import, folding, and quality control. This multi-functional protein is involved in mitochondrial biogenesis, cellular metabolism, stress response, cellular senescence, and aging. HSPA9 is increasingly recognized as a Parkinson's disease susceptibility gene, with decreased expression observed in the substantia nigra pars compacta of PD brains. [@ncbi]
