Overview

Optineurin is a 66 kDa ubiquitin-binding protein encoded by the [OPTN](/genes/optn) gene [@minegishi2013]. It is a versatile adaptor protein involved in multiple cellular processes including [autophagy](/entities/autophagy), inflammation, and membrane trafficking [@gandhi2014]. OPTN has emerged as a critical player in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and glaucoma [@maruyama2010].
