PLK2 (Polo-like kinase 2) is a member of the polo-like kinase family of serine/threonine protein kinases that play essential roles in cell cycle regulation, centrosome duplication, and cellular stress responses. In the nervous system, PLK2 has emerged as an important regulator of synaptic function and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's disease (PD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) [1][2]. Unlike other polo-like kinases, PLK2 is expressed at high levels in post-mitotic [neurons](/entities/neurons) where it performs specialized functions related to synaptic plasticity and protein quality control [3].
