Stathmin 1 (STMN1), also known as Oncoprotein 18 (OP18), is a 143-amino acid phosphoprotein that serves as a master regulator of microtubule dynamics in all eukaryotic cells. In the central nervous system, STMN1 plays critical roles in neuronal development, axonal transport, synaptic plasticity, and cytoskeletal maintenance. Its dysregulation has been implicated in multiple neurodegenerative diseases, including [Alzheimer's disease](/diseases/alzheimers-disease), [Parkinson's disease](/diseases/parkinsons-disease), and [amyotrophic lateral sclerosis](/diseases/amyotrophic-lateral-sclerosis).
