Overview

Synaptotagmin-7 (SYT7) is a protein involved in cellular signaling and molecular processes. It is expressed in various tissues including the brain and plays roles in neuronal function and disease mechanisms.

Structure

Syt7 has two C2 domains that bind calcium.

Normal Function

Synaptotagmin-7 is a calcium sensor for asynchronous neurotransmitter release and vesicle replenishment. It has a higher calcium affinity than synaptotagmin-1.

Role in Disease

SYT7 variants are linked to Alzheimer's disease and autism.
