TRIM46 (Tripartite Motif Containing 46) is a member of the TRIM (Tripartite Motif) protein family that is predominantly expressed in [neurons](/entities/neurons) and plays a critical role in establishing and maintaining neuronal polarity. The protein is uniquely localized to the initial axon segment (AIS), a specialized membrane domain that acts as a gateway for action potential initiation and helps maintain the distinction between axons and dendrites.
