This complex acts as a nutrient sensor, responding to amino acid availability and energy states to regulate cellular growth and catabolic processes. When amino acids are depleted, the FLCN-FNIP1 complex promotes the GAP (GTPase-activating protein) activity on Rag GTPases, ultimately leading to mTORC1 inhibition and autophagy activation.
