TYK2 Protein — Tyrosine Kinase 2

Overview

Tyrosine Kinase 2 (TYK2) is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase belonging to the Janus kinase (JAK) family, which also includes JAK1, JAK2, and JAK3. TYK2 plays a critical role in mediating signaling by type I interferons (IFN-α/β), interleukin-10 (IL-10), interleukin-12 (IL-12), interleukin-23 (IL-23), and other cytokines. In the central nervous system (CNS), TYK2 is predominantly expressed in [microglia](/cell-types/microglia-neuroinflammation), the resident immune cells of the brain, where it regulates neuroinflammatory responses that contribute to neurodegenerative processes in Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and multiple sclerosis (MS) [@oshea2015].
