Overview

Pantothenate Kinase 1 (PANK1) is the rate-limiting enzyme in coenzyme A (CoA) biosynthesis, catalyzing the ATP-dependent phosphorylation of vitamin B5 (pantothenate) to produce 4'-phosphopantothenate. This first step in the CoA biosynthetic pathway is essential for cellular metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, and mitochondrial function.
