Ventral tegmental area (VTA) GABAergic [neurons](/entities/neurons) are local interneurons that provide inhibitory modulation to dopamine (DA) neurons within the VTA. These cells play critical roles in regulating reward processing, motivation, addiction, and various aspects of cognitive function.
