Neuronal Precursor Cells
Introduction
Neuronal Precursor Cells (NPCs) are transiently proliferative neural stem cell progeny that differentiate into mature neurons[@gage2000]. Found primarily in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricles and the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the dentate gyrus, NPCs are essential for adult neurogenesis—the process of generating new functional neurons throughout life[@lim2014].

Neurogenesis in the Adult Brain
Subventricular Zone Pathway
The SVZ contains the largest population of neural stem cells in the adult mammalian brain. These cells generate neuroblasts that migrate via the rostral migratory stream to the olfactory bulb, where they differentiate into interneurons[@lois1994].
