Overview

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder worldwide, affecting approximately 10 million people globally. The disease is characterized by the progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc), leading to the hallmark motor symptoms including bradykinesia, resting tremor, rigidity, and postural instability. While the exact etiology of sporadic Parkinson's Disease remains multifactorial and incompletely understood, substantial research has focused on understanding the molecular pathways that regulate dopaminergic neuron survival, function, and vulnerability. Among these pathways, the NURR1 (Nuclear Receptor Related 1) pathway has emerged as a critical regulator of dopaminergic biology and a promising therapeutic target[@le2003].
