Overview

Akt (protein kinase B) is a serine/threonine kinase that plays a central role in cell survival, growth, metabolism, and synaptic plasticity. Akt serves as a critical downstream effector of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling and is a key mediator of neurotrophin-induced neuronal survival.
